For 2008, we are working on plans for doing concerts at high schools during lunch and at Texas youth prisons. We are also hoping to be involved in a lot of concerts on college campuses all over the country. No. But can an organization really be Christian? An organization isn't a living breathing being. It's made up of the people and policies that run it. We are broken, flawed, and messy humans trying to figure out life. We do the best we can to follow Christ and have all of our work be something He would be excited about. We try to adhere to several St. Francis of Asisi quotes: "Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words" and "if God can work through me He can work through anyone".

One of our favorite Scriptures is in Matthew 39 where Jesus says, "Love your neighbor as yourself". People struggle with what He meant by "love" and "neighbor". Who is our neighbor and how do we really love them? We believe loving our neighbors means serving them - thinking of their needs before our own. We also believe our neighbors include everyone we can reach and serve. This is where organizations differ from individuals. As individuals, we can serve all types of people with all types of needs as we come in conctact with them on a daily basis. However, as an organization, we have decided Better Off Rock'd should primarily serve young people ages 15 to 24 - which means mostly high school, college, and graduate school students - and that we should serve them by trying to help them reduce mental illness, depression, suicide, and even drug abuse. Oh yeah, and we make a crap load of mistakes and hope people will forgive us.

We'd love for you to, but we can't guarantee anything. There definitely aren't enough concerts to hold all of the great artists we come in contact with. But keep trying and sending us links to your music. We love checking everyone out and love discovering new artists.

It is a play on words of the common phrase, "Better Off Dead". We believe no one is better off dead. We also believe music is one of the best communicators to our target audience of 15 to 24 year-olds which is why we chose the word "Rock'd". We are all better off rock'd meaning that we are all better off listening to great music and learning from it than being dead.

When we formed the organization in January 2007, the state of Texas wouldn't allow us to have the words "Better Off" in our official name since there were already Texas corporations using those two words in their name. However, they are fine with the name "Better Off Rock'd" as an assumed name or dba. So, we picked Awesome Rock Productions as the official name since so much of what we do or planned to do involved producing concerts. Then, we filed for an assumed name of Better Off Rock'd. Both names are on file with the Texas Secretary of State. We also intentially never used the word suicide in the name because we knew what we want to accomplish goes beyond suicide to include all types of mental health and substance abuse issues. There's also a few hidden meanings behind the use of the word "Rock" in our name, but you have to get to know us to figure them out.
